LibraryThing

It is great! I love it. I always think that library patrons should be able to retrieve/save what they have previously borrowed. The Zeitgeist is helpful in my case as well, considering the cultural/literary immersion is one of those things one immigrant may find his/herself constantly trying through his/her whole life.

delicious and social bookmarking

I've signed up with del.icio.us a couple years ago and chickened out for some reason that I can't remember (I am guessing now it is probably because I need to download this plugin). Now I find myself once again registering myself to yet another account (what's the best way to manage all the accounts/psw one have? it is definitely getting out of control). I overcame the fear and downloaded the plugin, and find it incredibly useful, helpful, and user-friendly.

I certainly find it liberating since I don't have to go to a particular machine to access my bookmark, and since it is also a social discovery system, I can see what others are posting and what tags they are using and the most popular ones are definitely worth checking out. Among the examples given, PennTags is the most impressive and since it has been up and running for more than three years, I wonder if it is still being heavily used, and if it is starting to replace Blackboard or WebCT, or if the Penn version of CFAPs?

Flickr

I've been using flickr since 2005, and the experience is quite good--kids motivate people do crazy things, such as posting their pictures and showing off to people on a regular basis. Shortly after Megan's birth and before I had flickr account, I bombarded friends' and families' emails with Megan's new photos, why, this is THE MOST beautiful girl in the whole wide world and of course I am going to let everyone see how cute she is getting EVERYDAY! Well, that didn't last very long. My mom dragged me back to earth and then I set up my flickr account for everyone who is REALLY interested in seeing her picture. So far, no one complained :)
